Art Docent Program
You Don’t Have To Be An Artist To Be An Art Docent

Join the group of classroom art docents!  Partner with other parents in your classroom to share docent responsibilities - and it’s fun to do lessons together!  You will have many resources available to you:
✯ Pre-structured lessons (available digitally and can be printed)
✯ All Materials for lessons
✯ Training and resources offered by NSD

What it takes to be a successful Art Docent:
✯ Interest in both learning and teaching art
✯ Ability to capture the attention of a classroom of young artists
✯ An understanding that the artwork is really how the student sees it
✯ Ability to partner with the teacher
✯ Recognizing that the lessons are about learning and creating through artwork
✯ Willingness to support the Art Walk (end of year event)
✯ Ability to enjoy the volunteer opportunity.

Volunteer time commitment is:

✯ ~1 hour Orientation
✯ at least 6 classroom lessons (can take up to 2 hours per lesson (which includes set up & clean up)
✯ 30 minutes to 1 hour to familiarize yourself with each lesson each month
✯ 2 hours (total – in increments through the year) coordinating with the teacher.
