Enrichment: Executive Board Liason, Liza Yore
 
Our PTA funds or subsidizes the cost  of student enrichment activities before-, during- and after-school hours.  Most programs rely heavily on parent volunteers, and on our community partners.

Assemblies: PTA sponsored assemblies through out each year. Contact Sherri Feldman for more information.

Art Docent: In-class program to help students experience Art through lessons, discussions and projects. Contact Christina Gibbs for more information.

Artist in Residence: A revolving program where students work with a different Professional Artist gaining exposure to a variety of art medias. Contact Kelsey Henry for more info.

Chess Club is OPEN for Fall Registration: 

Students in Grades 1-6 are invited to join the chess club which meets weekly after-school.  In Fall, Grades 1-6 meets Thursdays in the Library, 3:30-4:30pm. All skill levels are welcomed.   Chess Club is instructed by skilled coaches from The Chess Academy operated by WGM, Elena Donaldson and IM, Georgi Orlov.Cost $80/student; parents free. All materials are provided.

 Register by 09/09/11.  Please register early as spots typically fill up quickly. Space is limited.

 

CANCELLED Kindergarteners and 1st Graders can join in the fun.  Younger students may be too overwhelmed and tired to attend a 1-hr class after school. We'd like to introduce younger Kindergarteners and 1st Graders to a 1/2 hour chess class before-schools, 8:20am-8:50am.  These classes will be taught by WGM Elena Donaldson.  If your child is interested in the Chess Club, please contact Janine Praitis  425 402*0656. We'll need interest from at least 12 students to make this section work. Dates Thursday 10/28, 11/3, 11/17, 12/1, 12/8, 12/15. Cost $42/student.

 


Classic Books Club: Age-appropriate lunchtime  literary club emphasizing enjoyment of the Classics.

Geography Bee: Geography activities for 4-6th grades and supporting School/State/National Geographic Bees.  More information 2B announced.

Math Club: Fun and challenging Math activities for 3rd-6th grades supporting competition at the Math Olympiad.Times and Locations for each Grade will be posted here shortly.    Contact Elizabeth Epley for more information.

Evergreen Family Theater:

Evergreen Family Theater is a fun, in-depth drama program at Hollywood Hill for all students in grades 1-6. This theater experience will culminate in two performances of The Emperor’s New Clothes. This six week program (September 21-November 5) is directed by Marsha Stueckle (assisted by youth and parent volunteers.) Rehearsals run three times per week after school (younger participants in grades 1-2 will meet only once per week until the week before showtime). Students must audition to be assigned a part; however, this is an inclusive program in which we have a spot for everyone--the more the merrier. Cost: $25 grades 1-2, $45 grades 4-6. DRAMA: Our own Mrs. Brown will be leading Drama Club again this year. It will start in January. Please watch for notices in the Hollywood Hill Happenings!

 

Missoula Children’s Theatre:

Join us March 12-17, 2012 as we put on The Tortoise Versus the Hare! During that week, our 1st through 6th graders will learn how to put on a show from start to finish. Auditions with our visiting directors take place on Monday, and the show is performed on Saturday! It is a whirlwind week of music, dancing, acting, fun, excitement and theatrical learning. There is a $30 participation fee for children who are cast. Scholarships are available. More information will be coming in later newsletters. Watch the Happenings for details! Piano Club: Main Stem Academy provides this after-school piano class meeting Mondays 3:30-4:30pm in Portable 2. Fall session runs Sept 14th-Nov 16th. Session Cost is $150/student payable to HH-PTA.  Registration for the SPRING session is open.  Contact Mark at Mainstem Music for Registration Information.

Community Outreach:  Executive Board Liason,   Kathleen O’Toole

Our PTA serves not only the School Community, but also models for our students the value of reaching out to the Local and State Levels.

Community Projects: Activities serving the needs within the local community, such as Canned Food Drives and The Giving Tree.
Directory: Annual publication of student/family directory, with sponsors from local businesses.
Hospitality:  Providing refreshments at PTA activities.
Membership: Promoting and maintaining membership records.
Newsletter: Weekly publication of school and local events.
Picture Day: Organize and assist in Picture Day events.
Publicity & Print: Assisting PTA committees by copying and collating materials, and maintaing reader boards.
Room Parent Coordinator: Parent Volunteers assist Teachers with parties and special events.
Teacher Appreciation: Plan and coordinate activities for the Teacher Appreciation Week and other events. Join the Staff Appreciation Team today!
Website: Supports PTA website.
Volunteer Coordinator: Compiles, maintains and distributes volunteer lists.
Legislative Liason: HHPTA is a strong advocate of our students, school and our School District in all matters pertaining to Funding, Curriculum, Testing and Teacher Excellence at the State level.



Family Life & Health: Executive Board Liason, Elizabeth Epley

Family Life and Health seeks to promote each student's well-being in all aspects of his life, both at school and at home.  Planned events seek to incorporate families and fun into our school community.

Attendance Line: Program to ensure the safe arrivial and attendance for all students.
Pumpkin Night: A fun, family-oriented event for all students.
Emergency Preparedness: Achieving and maintaining effective disaster planning.
Family Bingo: Bingo, fun and prizes for the whole family.
Field Day: End-of-year day filled with outdoor games and activities.
Playground Enrichment Program: A program provided by parents to enrich and support students during recess.
CANCELLED on 11/8. Skating Party: After-school skating fun at SkateKing Arena 11/9.
Vision & Hearing: Annual vision and hearing screenings for all students
