October is Dyslexia Awareness Month! This is an effort to raise awareness about the learning disorder that involves difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters and other symbols. In Washington state, nearly 1 in 5 students, or about 20% of the population, is impacted by language-based learning disorders such as dyslexia. Even if it were 1 in 10 students, that would still mean about 2,200 students in our district are impacted by dyslexia.

Want to learn more about dyslexia? The NSD's Dyslexia Committee used this video about dyslexia in its presentation to the School Board on Oct. 8th: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zafiGBrFkRM. Worth the 5 minutes of your time!
